If you were born near the sky blue waters
Chances are your mother was a minnesota daughter
Played in the snow six months of every year
And other times mosquitos always buzzed around your ear
Scandinavians 2 by 2
And other nations were welcome too
Minnesota gold and maroon
Maybe I'll go back, but not too soon.
THE LAND OF LAKES
City of water
Winter's coldest
But summer is always hotter
On a dark and clear summer's night
Sputnik flew beneath the northern lights
The north star state never seemed the same
Until then
We never thought our world could end
THE LAND OF LAKES
Has given us a few good years
We raised our corn in the back part of the garden,
Memories of summer days will never be forgotten
Swam in the lakes, never needed our own pool,
And parents never bothered to drive us to our school
Jews, Africans, Dutchmen too
But scandinavion thru & thru
Minnesota gold and maroon
Maybe I'll go back, but not too soon.
THE LAND OF LAKES
City of water
Winter's coldest
But summer is always hotter
Always hotter
