I know a man, he's one of my friends
Lately he's been changing his ways
He's using God as a means to an end
Going to church on the appropriate days
He made up his mind when he had two daughters
Don't want his babies out with boys in the night
Free thinking girls, like lambs to the slaughter
Put the fear of god in 'em before puberty strikes
He says "I turn my back on modern times
Now that I've got something to lose
I'll hold on to anything I can find
As GOD IS my witness, GOD IS my tool"
My brother, he was guilty too
Way back when he was fairly cool
In the Vietnam lottery he was bound to lose
So he got religion in the seminary school
Avoided the draft on a religious stance
Then he wasn't even allowed to fight
Didn't need to move to Nouveau France
Started telling other people wrong from right
He says "I turn my back on modern times
Now that I've got something to lose
I'll hold on to anything I can find
As GOD IS my witness, GOD IS my tool"
Down thru history it's been the same
From Tutankamen to Jimmy Baker
People using god for personal gain
The King, the Priest, the healing faker
Man must believe what he can't understand
so he gravitates towards words of salvation
He spreads the words across all lands
A mission from God, to elevate his station
He said "I turn my back on modern times
Now that I've got something to lose
I'll hold on to anything I can find
As GOD IS my witness, GOD IS my tool"
