Beneath these barren trees
We wait for light to come
And when we hear a voice
We lay still on the ground
Deep in eternal night
We huddle close for warmth
Exhale inside our shirts
And if the sun does rise
We'll hide our tracks and turn
Back to THE HIGHWAY AGAIN
We're heading southward
Down to the ocean
Perhaps we'll find our friends
And even if we still find trouble
Maybe its warm down there
We need to stay alert
Don't fall asleep again
I'll scout out where we're going
You look back where we've been
Let's never be hunted again
Tonight we'll find a ditch
And we can cover it
Maybe we'll get some sleep
Perhaps we'll need to get
Back ON THE HIGHWAY AGAIN
I'm getting weaker now
When I fall let me lie
Promise me just one thing
Take a solumn vow to get
Back ON THE HIGHWAY AGAIN
