Preceding the Police were a local band, the Kats , five men who screech and preen like their namesakes, and that's a compliment.

The Kats music is tight and hard, and they're fronted by a pervy little lead singer whose witty idea is to make us laugh at his self-consciously macho pose without losing track of the beat. I laughed and banged my feet a lot.
