Critics Pick Their Favorite Acts of 1979
Bruce Duff: | 1. | THE KATS , fronted
by Freddy Moore, are my fave band to listen to and watch. The music is
laced with funk and jazz overtones yet always keeps a rock'n' roll heart.
Their lyrics are a humorous portrait of the suburban kid next door. A
squirrly little guy who looks too anemic to beat up his grandmom, Freddy
somehow manages to roar like a lion and conquer audiences nightly. One of
the tightest bands in town, they also have one of the greatest all time
theme songs, "I'm a Kat." |
| 2. | Like Freddy Moore, MICK
SMILEY is an
underdog's underdog. Freddy, however is cute amd Mick is not. Mick is mad
as hell and he's not going to take it anymore. |
| 3. | RUBBER CITY
REBELS are neither
underdogs nor cute. They play simple basic music that cuts to the
heart. |
| | The fact that none of these bands are
signed is repulsive. |
